How to Make a Monogram in Canvas Workspace
to Decorate a Clear Stadium Bag
From songbirds to saplings, Spring brings all kinds of great things! For many, the start of baseball season brings a new hopeful vigor to the year, but before you gear up for the game you might want to double check the stadium’s bag policy. While the strictest rules exist for NFL, some MLB teams are adopting similar clear bag policies to increase security and safety at events. In most cases, a logo is allowed to be on the bag, so there’s a chance for customization (creatives rejoice!) These clear vinyl bags, known as Stadium Bags, can be decorated with any type of EasyPSV™ Permanent (this includes: Glitter, Etch, and Glow!) for a long lasting decal.
Do you know what else Spring brought this year? A HUGE update to the Scan N Cut Software! Scan N Cut Canvas was an online application that required internet access, but NEW Canvas Workspace is a program that downloads to your desktop and is capable of more detailed designing. One of my favorite updates? Allowing the use of all of the fonts on your computer (buh-bye Type Converter!) Get a look at more of Canvas Workspace’s new features and learn how to create a monogram in the video below!
After transferring your cut file to the Scan N Cut, place EasyPSV on the cutting mat with the color side up and load it into the machine. Cut settings can be found on the Siser website although they are suggested as a starting point and will need to be adjusted depending on the age and wear of your blade. A test cut will let you know if there are adjustments to be made. Click here for a refresher on how to test cut using the Brother Scan N Cut!
When the cutter is finished with the first color (in this case EasyPSV Permanent White Cloud) repeat the process with the second color (EasyPSV Permanent Holly Berry.) When all your EasyPSV is cut, use your Siser® Weeder to pick out the excess vinyl.
Once weeded, cut a piece of EasyPSV Application Tape to size and lay it on top of the monogram. I like to start from the center and roll the edges of the tape down. Use a squeegee to apply pressure so when you go to peel the tape away, the PSV comes with it.
Now to put the registration marks to use! Cut the top of the backing paper away from behind the square. Now you can align the two colors of registration marks without fear of the monogram being skewed on the home base shape.
After the registration marks are lined up, peel away the rest of the backing paper and lay the top layer onto the bottom.
Bond the two colors of EasyPSV together with a squeegee before cutting off the no longer needed registration marks.
Now my decal is ready to decorate the stadium bag! Before applying though, it’s best to prep the bag’s surface to ensure it’s clean and free of any oils (like hand lotion) that can prevent the EasyPSV from bonding as strong as possible. A microfiber cloth is the best choice (paper towel could leave small bits behind) for cleaning. Pair the cloth with a mixture of water and either a bit of isopropyl alcohol or a small drop of Dawn dish soap.
*Keep in mind that this prep process isn’t always necessary and shouldn’t be used on porous surfaces like untreated wood.
When the bag is clean and dry, center the decal and use a squeegee to press out any bubbles. After, you can peel away the EasyPSV Application Tape.
Now you’re good to go to the game with your new custom stadium bag! If you liked this post, pin the image below. If you loved this post, please share it!
