How to Cut and Apply EasyWeed® Adhesive
If you look for the sunshine through the clouds you’ll likely find the bright side! If you apply EasyWeed® Adhesive to your project, you may find it too! The cloudy appearance of EasyWeed Adhesive turns clear when applied and becomes bright like the sun when you add a screen printing foil on top. Keep reading for how you can make shining shirts with EasyWeed Adhesive!
Step 1: Cutting EasyWeed Adhesive
Just like the materials in the EasyWeed Family, EasyWeed Adhesive has a carrier side and a material side. The carrier side is noticeably smoother and shinier than the material side. Now you may notice the material side looks like it doesn’t have any, well, material. That’s because it’s simply a layer of mostly transparent glue. Not just any glue though, EasyWeed Adhesive! EasyWeed Adhesive can be used with screen printing foils as well as fabrics and other materials that lend themselves to adhesion.
EasyWeed Adhesive can be cut on any vinyl cutter and requires the typical steps before cutting Siser® heat transfer vinyl. Make sure to mirror your design, place the carrier side face down on the cutting mat, and be sure to test cut before cutting a full design. How old your blade is and how used loved it is will effect your blade and cut settings, so make sure your blade produces a good cut with our suggested settings or make some adjustments.
Step 2: Weeding EasyWeed Adhesive
When it comes to weeding EasyWeed Adhesive you may drive yourself crazy trying to weed it on top of a light colored surface.
Instead, weed on top of a dark table or place a dark piece of paper or fabric behind the material so you can identify the cut lines.
Start by weeding the outside of the material by hooking your Siser Weeder into a corner and separating the excess material from the carrier.
We wouldn’t call it EasyWeed Adhesive for nothing! This material weeds simply like any other EasyWeed material!
Once you can see the design of your outline, weed out any cavities in the design.
When I think I’ve got all my excess adhesive removed I like to flip my design over and inspect it from the carrier side to make sure I really got it all.
Step 3: Heat Applying EasyWeed Adhesive
When your certain it’s weeded perfectly you can prepare to heat apply! Heat Press Settings for EasyWeed Adhesive HTV are-
Time: 10-15 seconds total
Temperature: 275°F/135°C
Pressure: Medium
Start by preheating your garment for 2-3 seconds so you have a wrinkle and moisture free area to apply to. Place the adhesive with the carrier side face up, cover with a heat transfer cover sheet, and press for 5 seconds. Leave the garment on the heat press and peel the carrier hot. You’ll notice the shiny, clear adhesive is left behind.
Now you’ll add the top layer material. In this case it’s a screen printing foil. Cut a piece large enough to cover your design. Place the piece of foil on top of the EasyWeed Adhesive with the color side up. Recover with your heat transfer cover sheet and press for 10 seconds. Notice how the adhesive has gripped the foil after pressing.
Before excitedly peeling off the foil, remove the garment from the heat press and wait until the foil is cool to the touch. Your patience will be rewarded with a shiny, super cool garment!
You may notice small gaps in the foil on your garment, that’s because screen printing foils don’t actually offer full coverage color. It’s normal for small pieces to get left behind on the foil sheet. This gives the foil a bit of a distressed look that’s very popular. If you want an even more distressed look, crumple the foil before heat application. If you want to fill in the gaps, use another color of foil!

Does Siser offer the screen printing foils? If not who manufactures these types of foil and are there any plans for Siser to offer them in the future?
Lynn, There are already several companies that manufacture the foils and many more that carry them. We just found that our adhesive works particularly well with these materials.
Where can I find a distributor in the BeNeLux (Netherlands) or Europe?
Margo, contact info@siser.it. They handle the international distributors and should be able to point out someone for you!
What is it called is there a direct link for this please
Hi Lizette! Please email info@siser.it to find authorized distributors in EU or info@siserna.com for authorized distributors in the US or CA.
how strong is the adhesive as in would it hold a piece of felt instead of foil?
cheers from Rodney (Australia)
Rodney, EasyWeed™ Adhesive will hold a piece of felt. However, we still recommend stitching the edges for longevity.
What other items can you use with the adhesive?
Hi Jeri! We’ve also used EasyWeed Adhesive with fabric and paper!
What are the washing instructions for adhesive with foil?
Hi Allison! The washing instructions for EasyWeed™ Adhesive are as follows:
• Wait 24 hours before 1st wash
• Machine wash cold / mild detergent
• Dry on normal dryer setting
• Do not dry clean
Different brands of foil may recommend other washing instructions. It’s best to check the Foil label and follow the washing instructions listed to ensure the best longevity.
Do you have a video explaining on how to do the fabric??
At this time, we do not have a video on the fabric applique process with EasyWeed Adhesive. However, we do have a blog post that explains how to go about it: https://www.siserna.com/fabric-applique-easyweed-adhesive/
Hello,
I only have a laminator (which I can set the temperature) Can I use that as I do not want to invest in a heat press since I am only making cards for family and friends. I want to use embossing powder. I already use the laser / foil method for ordinary cards but have not found a satisfactory method for embossing powder (inkjet dries too quickly).
Hi Allan! We have not tested EasyWeed® Adhesive with embossing powder, but it is an adhesive, so it’s possible it could work. We recommend testing it out, and we’d love to hear how it goes.
How does the foil hold up vs HTV easy weed?
Hi Lauren! The longevity of the foil is going to depend on the brand and quality, however EasyWeed® will still outlast foils through the washing process.
what type of heat press do you use for your videos?? Thank you,
Steve, The press in most of our videos is the TS-One by Siser Italy. We’re not using it anymore as it’s not readily available in the states.
Can I buy the easy weed adhesive from siser?
Hello Janaye, Siser products can be purchased through a variety of authorized distributors and resellers, so we don’t sell direct. To find a distributor near you, please email us at info@siserna.com.
I recently purchased some Easy Weed Adhesive and was testing it out before using it for real. It seemed to want to stick to the carrier rather than the quilting cotton backed with Pellon SF-101 that I was trying to apply it to. What could cause this? Perhaps my heat setting was too high, as I had it set to 305? I will have to try it again at 275 after reading this.
Also, any timing tips on layering with this? I have just recently purchased Siser products and haven’t tried out this magical 1-second tack thing yet. I bought the adhesive to try putting some lenses in an image of glasses using StarCraft Electra Foil. The glasses’ frames will be layered with Siser Easy Weed Electric cherry on the bottom, and an overlay pattern in Siser Easy Weed vegas gold. Then I want to fill in the lenses with the Siser Easy Weed Adhesive before doing a final press with the foil, which requires 15 seconds at 305. Or do you think those final two presses would just ruin the whole thing? I may have to give up on the shiny lenses, my first two attempts didn’t turn out well, but I was using a different brand for the frames. The 1-second tack sounded awesome, which is why I bought the Siser… just haven’t had the chance to try another test.
Hi Robyn! EasyWeed® Adhesive performs best at the lower temperature of 275°F although it can be applied at 305°F if necessary. You may want to try lowering the temperature and checking out this blog post on proper pressure. When the pressing time and temperature are correct, pressure is often the culprit causing the application issue.
For layering, you’ll definitely want to use the 1 second tack to press the first two layers for only a few seconds at a time. Then you can place the adhesive, press for 5 seconds, peel carrier, and add foil on top. Press for 10 more seconds and this final press will bond your first two layers as well.
do you have a youtube video available for this process?
tyia
Yes, we do! Check out the tutorial here.
Using sister adhesive and sister foil….how many washes will the foil last?
Hi Teresa! Siser® EasyWeed® Adhesive will last 25 washes and beyond. However, the life of your foil will depend on the brand. Siser does not manufacture a screen print foil for use with the adhesive. For the most thorough information, I’d check with the business you purchased from, but typically foils can last between 15 and 25 washes.
Hi Lily, I’m a newbie with T-shirt printing and I plan to do it for business. I saw you on FB and I was in the process of buying HTV here but got confused with so many choices and options. Which one do you suggest would be good for durability, cost and quality wise? I plan to just use Cricut machine for cutting and the Cricut Easy Press, unless Heat Press is better. Hope you could help me out. Thanks a lot.
Hi Loralie, sorry for the confusion! EasyWeed products are the best option for beginners looking for a quality and cost effective HTV. A heat press is going to give you better results because it has a reliable pressure source. You may want to check out this video that explains why a heat press is the best choice for business owners.
thanks a lot. Big help indeed.
What material setting do you use if you don’t have an easy weed setting
Hi Rheda! It will depend on the cutter you’re using. Our suggested settings for the Silhouette, Cricut, and Brother cutters can be found on each product page of our website. Check out what we recommend for EasyWeed® Adhesive here.
Hello! Can I use it on mugs? How can I press it on paper? Thanks
Hi Bianca! Siser® HTV and EasyWeed® Adhesive are not made for use on mugs, but they can be pressed on cardstock papers with their standard heat application settings. Check out this blog post or this video for similar steps.
That is amazing stuff
did you send it to Dubai ? I want to order it
Hello! Please be on the lookout for an email from a Siser sales representative regarding purchasing opportunities in the Dubai area. Thank you!
I can’t find what materials the Easyweed Adhesive can be applied to. For example, can it be applied to nylon? I am doing cinch sacks.
Thank you!
Karen
Hi Karen! EasyWeed Adhesive can be applied to most fabrics, however EasyWeed® Extra is the only Siser® HTV that will stick to nylon. You can layer EasyWeed Adhesive and foils on top of EasyWeed Extra to get a shiny look though!
I’ve recently purchased sublimation ink printer and would like to know what products other than siser glitter can I sublimate? I saw the video on colorprint easyweed but I’m a little confused I guess about my ink. I’m not sure if sublimation dye ink is ok for this process?
Brianna, Sublimation is only applicable to the Glitter at this time. The ColorPrint Easy product is specifically designed for large format digital printers.
will EasyWeed Adhesive stick to completely different materials such as wood or marble?
Hi Duncan! We’ve applied EasyWeed® Adhesive to wood and it does just fine. As for marble, it’s not something we have tried, but I have seen customers have success on marble coasters. I unfortunately cannot vouch for the longevity of those coasters, but it may be something we need to try out!
My friend who wanted a tshirt done by me bought Foil Vinyl and I havnt used Foil Vinyl yet as I just bought my Silhouette Cameo 3 just recently. But, I am just wondering whats the difference between using Foil Vinyl by itself and the Adhesive Vinyl?! Can i just iron on the Foil just by itself and it should be fine?
Hi Nadia! EasyWeed® Foil, Metal, and Metallic HTV are all one step heat transfers. Which means you cut, weed, and apply them on the carrier sheet. EasyWeed® Adhesive is a two step process because you must first cut, weed, and heat apply the adhesive then you layer screen print foil on top of the adhesive and press again. If things are still unclear, watch this video for the EasyWeed® Adhesive process.
Thank you this! I purchased this almost a year ago and just recently rediscovered it. lol. I do have questions concerning using this with other types of HTV. If I’m doing a design and for example using a face I’m using smooth black HTV for the facial details but for the hair I want to use the foil. First question: would HTV would I apply first? Second question: would I do a “kiss” press” until all htv is applied then do a full time final press?
You’re welcome, Trellis! For the shiniest foil, I’d recommend pressing it last. If you press the foil a second time, it will become duller and more brushed in appearance. If you can fit the EasyWeed® Adhesive and your regular HTV on the garment without overlapping the plastic carriers, then you can tack press them for 1-5 seconds at 275°F (applying the adhesive at too high of a temp may cause it to lose it’s shape) before laying the foil and pressing for 10-15 seconds. If you have to do each layer separately because of your artwork, you can tack the regular HTV and adhesive for 1-5 seconds each and follow up with the foil for 10-15 seconds.
Hi there Is it possible to heat set Easyweed with a laminator? I want to use it on silkscreen material.
Hi Sarah! It could be possible to heat apply using a laminator, but we have not tested it. The laminator would have to use heat, variable speed, and adjustable pressure in order to duplicate standard heat application which uses a combination of time, temperature and pressure. You will still need some form of this combination for a successful application.
Where’s the least expensive site to order this from??
Hi Christine! Please email Info@SiserNA.com to find authorized sellers near you.
Hello. I finally figured out how to work with the easyweed adhesive. I had been pressing too long at too high a heat. How can the adhesive be removed from a shirt that it kinda melted into? Will VLR work?
Hi Amanda! VLR will remove most of the adhesive, but you may need to use some Goo Gone to remove the last of it.
Can I use the htv adhesive and foil.on denim?
You sure can!
Would product be used to turn sticky vinyl into HTV?
Hi Jennifer! I do not know of a product that will turn adhesive vinyl into Heat Transfer Vinyl. However, one of our distributors does sell a a product to turn HTV into adhesive vinyl. You can read more about it here.
Hello! Is the adhesive a polyurethane? If not can you tell me what the material is? I am needing to make archival work, so the material is important to me!
Hi Dana! EasyWeed® Adhesive is a PET Composition and is CPSIA certified. If you need documents for your archives, please contact Support@SiserNA.com.
