How to Make a Dishwasher Safe Tumbler with EasyPSV Starling
Step 1: Select or Create Your Design
There are so many great cut files to choose from in the Leonardo™ Design Studio Design Library (like this School Days Pattern!) or you can opt to import a cut file you already have! If you’re feeling extra creative, you can make your own custom design with the help of all the awesome tools in Leonardo.

Step 2: Cut EasyPSV Starling
Starling is offered in over 50 beautiful colors. Most of them have a matte finish, with a select few offered in gloss. Whichever colors you use, you’ll want to make sure to cut with the colored side facing up. This means the Siser by Avery Dennison back printed paper liner will touch the cutting mat.
Tips for Cutting EasyPSV Starling
- Siser Light Tack Cutting Mat Reccomended (or go matless with Romeo® or Juliet®!)
- Colored Vinyl Side Up, Printed Paper Backing/Liner Side Down
- Do NOT Reverse Your Image/Cut File
- Test Cut to find your best settings
Step 2: Weed EasyPSV Starling
Use your Siser EasyWeeder® or EasyTweezers™ to remove the excess vinyl from the cut design.
Even with small, intricate designs Starling stands up to the test!
Step 3: Apply EasyPSV Starling
It’s always a good idea to prep your application surface with a grease-cutting soap or mix of isopropyl alcohol and water (unless you’re working with a porous surface like wood! Then you can skip this prep step.) Pair either of those solutions with a lint free cloth and you surface is ready for Starling!
EasyPSV Starling still works with Siser EasyPSV Application Tape, so no need to run out and get new transfer tape! Cut a piece of the grid lined application tape wider than the overall design and use an EasySqueegee® to apply pressure.

How to Layer Vinyl the Easy Way with the Parchment Paper Trick
After getting your first PSV color on the application tape, grab a piece of parchment paper and stick it to the PSV so that the paper is covering most of the design except for just a sliver on the edge.
Now you can line up the exposed edge with your second color, adjust, and re-adjust to your heart’s content! The parchment paper is transparent enough that you can see if the rest of the design will line up properly while also working as a shield between the vinyl.
Once you’re satisfied with the alignment, remove the parchment paper and use your EasySqueegee to apply pressure on both colors. Repeat the process with all the colors in your design then you’re ready to apply on your surface in one fell swoop!
Repeat the pressure process with your EasySqueegee then slowly peel back the application tape to reveal your dishwasher safe decoration!
Step 4: Enjoy, Wash, Repeat!
Your new tumbler is now ready to rock! Bring it back to school day after day or wherever your next adventure takes you. Everyone will love your custom drinkware and soon you may be making a few for friends (or customers!) as well. Won’t it be fun, when you get to tell them you CAN put it in the dishwasher?!
