For Today’s installment of Throwback Thursday, we tackle the awesome Dunder Mifflin Paper Company logo from the U.S. version of the TV show, The Office.
Let me start this post by saying that it’s illegal to take someone else’s design and print it for profit. I’m not telling you that it’s cool to do. I’m just giving you tips and tricks with these logos that you can use when creating your own designs or those for customers. If you use someone’s intellectual property and sell it, you’ll more than likely get busted.
With that being said, let’s proceed.
The Office ran from March 24, 2005 to May 16, 2013 and gave us so much, including the memorable line “That’s what she said”. The series depicts the everyday lives of office employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The show featured the likes of Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and Ed Helms. The Dunder Mifflin logo is seldom seen in the show but is a popular icon to die-hard fans… not to be confused with fans of the “Die Hard” movie franchise.
There are thousands of different versions of the Dunder Mifflin logo. Everyone and their mom has their own version. I chose to go closest to the source and found this image on Flickr of the actual Dunder Mifflin logo on the NBC store window.
The image was taken from an angle so I straightened it out and looked for similar fonts. I found that “Impact” was closest to the main logo and “Helvetica” was closest to the words Paper Company. It took awhile to fit the font to the logo… I had to edit each letter to fit.
Once complete, I sent the file to the GX-24 and cut the design from Siser EasyWeed. The design was weeded by removing all the cavities in the letters first. If you do the cavities first, your hand won’t stick to the carrier.
Once the whole design was weeded, I applied it to this blue T-shirt and slapped it on the Silver Surfer…
Again, the point of this post isn’t for you to go out and start bootlegging designs… it’s to show you that if you are given a company logo that might not be in the best shape… or even straight, that there are tricks you can do to get a great looking result! If you have CorelDraw and need some additional tips and tricks, leave a comment below and let us know. If there’s enough interest, we can make some videos showing you how to quickly get great results!
